Just and Inclusive Energy Transition

About

With Just and Inclusive Energy Transition (JIET) now embedded in the APAEC 2026-2030, ASEAN has recognised the need to ensure that ASEAN’s shift toward cleaner energy systems benefits all segments of society and leaves no one behind. As energy systems transform, it is essential to address potential impacts on workers, communities, and vulnerable groups, particularly those reliant on fossil fuel-based industries or facing energy access challenges.

A people-centred transition emphasises job creation, skills development, affordable energy access, and stakeholder engagement. By integrating social considerations into energy planning and policy, ASEAN can advance decarbonisation while promoting inclusivity, reducing inequalities, and strengthening social resilience throughout the region.
