Energy and Gender
About
Energy and gender are closely interconnected, with energy access, employment, and decision-making affecting women and men differently across ASEAN. Promoting gender equality in the energy sector contributes to more inclusive, effective, and sustainable energy outcomes. Women play vital roles as energy users, consumers, professionals, and leaders, yet remain underrepresented in energy-related education, employment, and policymaking.
Integrating gender perspectives into energy policies, programmes, and projects helps address these gaps, improve energy access, and enhance social and economic benefits. Advancing gender-responsive energy planning supports ASEAN’s broader commitments to inclusive development and ensures that the energy transition benefits all segments of society.
