Clean Coal Transformation (CCTR) aims to explore innovative pathways to promote a responsible and cleaner coal value chain aligned with carbon neutrality goals and development objectives.
Coal remains a dominant component in ASEAN’s energy landscape, accounting for 43.2% of electricity generation in 2023 and 30.5% of the primary energy mix in 2022, with exports expected to persist through 2050. However, amid the energy transition, the region is increasingly leaning towards a coal phase-down, with ASEAN Member States committing to stop new coal-fired power plants and pursue cleaner, more sustainable energy pathways.
