Maintaining its successful momentum with 200 MW order intake in Vietnam last year, Vestas has now secured its fourth intertidal project in the country with a 29 MW order with Sigma Engineering Joint Stock Company. The Ben Tre V1-3 wind power project will be located in Ba Tri District of Ben Tre Province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam.

Global Power Synergy Plc (GPSC), the power generation arm of national energy firm PTT Plc, took over four firms yesterday operating nine solar farms in Thailand with total capacity of 39.5 megawatts. Chawalit Tippawanich, president and chief executive of GPSC, said the company took over the firms through its wholly owned Global Renewable Power Co (GRP), acquiring shares in GNPS Star Group Co, World X Change Asia Co, PP Solar Co and Terra Form Operating Thailand Co.

Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Anthea Ong in Parliament on Thursday (26 March) called for the government to align the tax incentives with a carbon-neutral economy in order to attract and grow more of champions to pioneer the green economic activities. During her debate on Economic Expansion Incentives Act (EEIA) Amendment Bill, Ms Ong said that the tax incentives to reduce carbon emissions will help Singapore to “get a foothold into a host of emerging industries that support a climate-friendly future”.

A $433 million contract to build a biosolid treatment facility for the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) has been awarded to Sembcorp Design and Construction (SDC). National water agency PUB said in a statement yesterday that SDC will construct Tuas WRP’s energy-efficient biosolids building, digesters and greasy waste receiving facility.

THE National Assembly of Cambodia yesterday approved a draft provision of a state guarantee for three new power projects, one of which is a 700 megawatt (mW) coal-fired power plant investment to be undertaken by the Royal Group. All three power projects are contracted under a power purchase agreement with Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC). The agreement is a state guarantee that pays investors if the facilities fail to operate as per the purchase agreement.
