Government orders for citizens to stay home have slashed electricity demand by 15 percent, especially in countries with strict measures to limit the movement of people amid the coronavirus disease pandemic, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). This figure from the IEA, which is hosted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in France, is half the number observed in Luzon alone.

The romblon electric cooperative inc. (romelco) has installed a 200-kilowatt (kw) solar photovoltaic power system in four barangays. The facility is worth p12 million. This is part of its project Grid-Tied Solar Roof Mounted Project, which aims to provide clean, sustainable, and reliable energy to its consumers, according to a report. The solar project is also part of Romelco’s commitment to generate 90 percent of its electricity from renewable energy (RE) sources.

Johnson Controls, a global leader in building technologies and solutions, has enabled Sunway Pyramid mall, one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia, to save more than RM3 million in annual energy cost consistently since the retrofit in 2012. The result of a comprehensive chiller plant retrofit, the achievement exceeded the targets set by the Sunway management in its quest for improving energy efficiency and sustainability of the mega mall that opened in 1997.

Indonesia’s palm oil exports to China have plummeted by half in volume amid global uncertainties, an industry source has said. The Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI) said in a statement on Tuesday that China’s export volume fell by 381,000 tons or 57 percent. This contributed to the sharp drop in the country’s total palm oil exports, which declined by 35.6 percent to 2.39 million tons in January from 3.72 million tons in December 2019.
