The low-calorific value (CV) Indonesian coal market was steady today, although the price outlook remained weak because of sluggish demand. The uncertain demand outlook for the coming weeks and months is dampening physical trade. As such, bids and offers were scarce, although a total of 10,000t of ICI 4 coal derivatives were cleared on the CME as market participants sought to hedge their price exposure further along the curve.

Singaporean offshore services provider Kim Heng Marine & Oilfield (KHMO) has established a joint venture company with a Taiwanese company to jointly pursue offshore wind projects in Taiwan. The joint venture company, Bridgewater Marine (Taiwan) Limited, is 51 percent owned by the Taiwanese company and 49 percent owned by KHMO.

On 30 March 2020, Banpu Public Company Limited and Banpu Power Public Company Limited notified the Stock Exchange of Thailand about the postponement of the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Shareholders due to more intense security and more widespreading of COVID-19 outbreak. The two companies cancelled the dates, venues and agenda of the Meetings – the AGM of Banpu was previously scheduled on 3 April 2020 whereas that of Banpu Power was scheduled on 2 April 2020. When the situation is resolved and back to normal, the Board of Directors of both companies will consider the dates and the agenda of the 2020 AGM, which will be further notified to the shareholders.

Thailand’s Super Energy Corporation has announced it will invest $457 million in four solar power plants in southern Vietnam. The company said in a recent statement that it would pay $72.9 million to acquire a controlling share in four solar power projects run by state-owned utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) in Binh Phuoc Province, 120 km to the north of Ho Chi Minh City.

Repeated discoveries of an obscure, offshore natural gas known as flammable ice will bolster Chinese claims to a sea that’s contested by five other Asian governments. China extracted 861,400 cubic meters of flammable ice, a natural gas hydrate, for a daily average of 28,700 cubic meters during a mission that started in February, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported Thursday.

NDO – Vietnam saved 436,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to VND812.9 million (US$34,900), in one hour from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 28, according to the National Power Dispatch Centre. In 2019, the country’s saved 492,000kWh of power – equivalent to VND917 million (US$39,400).
