Renewable energy is one of the fundamental measures for sustainable development and climate change mitigation. As such, renewable energy becomes integral part of energy transition efforts in the region. Stressing the importance of renewable energy, ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025 set an aspirational target of 23% renewable energy share in TPES by 2025.
Above desire to promote renewable energy is supported by the fact that the AMS are endowed with varied renewable energy potentials, ranging from hydropower and geothermal to solar and bioenergy. Tapping these potentials would allow for greater diversity in energy supply, increasing the energy security nationally and regionally.
