ASEAN Accelerator Programme Enhancement of Clean Energy Technology Ecosystem and Its Connectivity in ASEAN Project
As one of the most energy-intensive sectors, the construction and building industries play a critical role in energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Embodied carbon accounts for 10% of global energy-related GHG emissions and contribute up to 20-25% of a building's total life-cycle emissions. These are the result only from material production, transportation, and construction. At the same time, operational emissions from buildings had been calculated to be accounted for 21% of global GHG emissions and 22% of energy consumption in 2022. In ASEAN's tropical climate, rising temperatures have intensified cooling demand, further escalating energy use and emissions.

ASEAN Accelerator Programme
Brought to you by the ASEAN Centre of Energy (ACE) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), supported by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

ASEAN Sparks is a programme that seeks to address climate and energy pressures by accelerating the growth of climate tech enterprises. The programme empowers early-stage startups with the tools, expertise, and networks needed to scale, while fostering a gender-inclusive environment that drives impactful clean energy solutions across the region.
ASEAN Sparks is a component of the Enhancement of Clean Energy Technology Ecosystem and Connectivity in ASEAN project. It seeks to scale up transformative energy-climate solutions by fostering investment and business growth within the clean energy and climate technology innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem (CIEE) across ASEAN Member States (AMS). This initiative contributes to the AMS goals of achieving energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability, while advancing global climate targets and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13: Climate Action. The project also aligns with the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2016-2025, particularly the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Programme Area Outcome-Based Strategy (OBS) 2: Enhance Participation of Private Sector and Financial Institutions including Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and Clusters for EE&C promotion.
