15 October 2025, Kuala Lumpur – The 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) kicked off with a soft opening ceremony on 15 October 2025, marking the start of three days of discussions, collaborations, and influential dialogue on ASEAN’s energy future. H.E. Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Dato' Haji Mad Zaidi Bin Mohd Karli, Secretary General of PETRA, Dato’ Ir. Ts. Razib Dawood, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Dr Nuki Agya Utama, Director of the Asia Zero Emission Centre of the Economic Research Insitute of ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and Dr Andy Tirta, Chairman of AEBF-25 were in attendance.
This year’s AEBF-25 aims to address the region’s most pressing energy challenges while advancing sustainability and inclusivity across ASEAN’s energy landscape. The forum brings over 1,500 delegates, including government officials, business leaders, energy experts, and investors, to explore innovative solutions, strengthen regional cooperation, and accelerate ASEAN’s transition to a low-carbon future.
Dato’ Ir. Ts. Razib Dawood, emphasised the Forum’s critical role. “The forum marks an important role of ASEAN as a catalyst of our energy cooperation for a common prosperity. I extend my deepest gratitude to the Government of Malaysia through PETRA for the continuous support to the Forum and the ASEAN Centre for Energy.”
H.E. Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir highlighted how AEBF-25's reflects Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year. “Under Malaysia’s Chairmanship, we embrace the theme ASEAN 2025: Inclusivity and Sustainability. This theme reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that ASEAN economic growth remains dynamic, innovative, and most importantly, equitable and people-centred,” he stated.
Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, reinforced the significance of the region's collaborative efforts in energy transformation."This year's theme reminds us that the energy transition is not only central to ASEAN sustainable growth, but also to our collective resilience and competitiveness. ERIA is proud to serve as a trusted partner in this journey.” With this soft opening ceremony, the AEBF-25 is set to kick-start a series of key sessions and discussions, focusing on topics such as clean energy transitions, energy security, cross-border collaboration, and sustainable financing.

About ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)
Established on 1 January 1999, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is an intergovernmental organisation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) structure that represents the 10 ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) interests in the energy sector. ACE supports the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), a blueprint for ASEAN energy sector. The Centre is guided by a Governing Council composed of Senior Officials on Energy from each AMS and a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat as an ex-officio member. The three key roles of ACE:
- As a catalyst to unify and strengthen ASEAN energy cooperation and integration by implementing relevant capacity building programmes and projects to assist the AMS develop their energy sector.
