ASEAN Centre for Energy Launches Regional Product Registration System Database Platform to Drive the Adoption of Energy-Efficient Appliances

18 September 2025

Jakarta, 18 September 2025 – The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) has officially launched the Regional Product Registration System (PRS) Database Platform during the 2nd Meeting of the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Sub-Sector Network (EE&C-SSN), held in Jakarta on 15 September 2025. Accessible at prs.aseanenergy.org, this platform serves as a central repository for registered appliances across all ASEAN Member States (AMS), with access provided to the appointed Country Manager. The launch of this regional platform aimed at facilitating the standard harmonisation of energy-efficient appliances and equipment to achieve the energy intensity reduction aspirational target under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC).

The Regional PRS Database offers several key benefits for the ASEAN region. It increases the visibility of products permitted for sale across different countries, providing a clearer picture of which appliances can be traded regionally. It also serves as a centralised tool for monitoring and verifying compliance with energy efficiency standards across all AMS, providing information about new products being registered or revoked within the region. Additionally, the database is expected to support the implementation of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) for energy-efficient appliances, ensuring smoother cross-border recognition of compliant products.  The Regional PRS website contains a comprehensive database of registered appliances, including air conditioners, refrigerators, and lighting products from all AMS. Each appliance entry features essential data parameters, such as brand name, model number, energy efficiency ratings, and other pertinent details.

The Chair of the ASEAN EE&C-SSN Working Group on Appliances, Dr. Supachai Sampao, highlighted the importance of collaboration, stating, “The collaboration between ASEAN Member States and the partners is crucial in developing a comprehensive database of energy-efficient appliances, which will ultimately support the implementation of mutual recognition arrangements in ASEAN.” This collaborative approach is poised to play a key role in APAEC’s EE&C Programme Area, particularly in aligning and promoting energy efficiency standards and labelling for appliances across the region. With its official launch, the Regional PRS Database Platform marks a significant step towards the harmonisation of energy-efficient appliance standards across ASEAN Member States. By facilitating greater regional collaboration, the platform will serve as a vital tool in advancing the adoption of energy efficiency standards and labelling schemes, supporting ASEAN’s shared commitment to energy intensity reduction.

About the ASEAN Centre for Energy Established on 1 January 1999, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is an intergovernmental organisation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) structure that represents the 10 ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) interests in the energy sector. ACE supports the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), a blueprint for the ASEAN energy sector. The Centre is guided by a Governing Council composed of Senior Officials on Energy from each AMS and a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat as an ex-officio member.      The three key roles of ACE:

  • As a catalyst to unify and strengthen ASEAN energy cooperation and integration by implementing relevant capacity-building programmes and projects to assist the AMS in developing its energy sector.
  • As the ASEAN energy data centre and knowledge hub, to provide a knowledge repository for the AMS.
  • As an ASEAN energy think tank to assist the AMS by identifying and surfacing innovative solutions for ASEAN’s energy challenges on policies, legal & regulatory frameworks and technologies.
  • Keeping the region’s improvement, sustainable and harmless to the ecosystem is a fundamental concern of the ASEAN energy sector. Hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, ACE’s office is located in Jakarta, Indonesia.
