Jakarta, 29 October 2025 The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) participated in the Grand Cocktail Forum, organised by the Bank Indonesia Institute, on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, at the Bank Indonesia Institute, Jakarta, Indonesia. This forum carried the theme “Climate Transition Risk Management Strategy for Financial Stability and Green Economy Acceleration,” which aims to strengthen the understanding of climate transition risks and their implications for national financial system stability. This activity was attended by approximately 100 participants, including researchers and Bank Indonesia employees from BINS, DKMP, and DEIH, as well as external participants, both in-person and online. Through this forum, ACE had the opportunity to contribute to enriching perspectives on climate transition risk management and policy synergies, encouraging green economic transformation in the region.

The event opened with remarks by Dr. Cicilia A. Harun, Head of the Bank of Indonesia Research Institute. She emphasised the importance of understanding and managing climate risk in financial institutions. The session began with a sharing session from both panelists, Dr. Ambiyah Abdullah from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Hendri Yulius Wijaya from the University of Melbourne. Dr. Ambiyah presented the latest energy outlook, policies on energy and climate change, including just and inclusive energy transition, and potential climate risks (physical and transition risks) on the financial sector in Indonesia. Hendri Yulius Wijaya, the author of “The Sustainability Career Playbook” from the University of Melbourne, presented the current scope and challenges of sustainability reporting.

After two presentations, the panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Danny Hermawan, Assistant Director of the Bank of Indonesia Research Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia. The session discussed climate risk management strategies and the acceleration of a green economy that strikes a balance between climate change impacts and financial stability. In the discussion, the speakers emphasized the importance of understanding the effects of transition risks on the financial and economic sectors, including understanding the key factors to enhance the scope and data quality of the sustainability report, as well as the necessity of developing integrated policies to ensure a just transition process.

In a knowledge-sharing session, Dr. Ambiyah explained that climate transition risks in Indonesia’s energy sector need to be systematically managed to ensure the transition to a green economy does not disrupt the stability of the financial system. Dr. Ambiyah also highlighted the reduction in emissions resulting from the implementation gap and the importance of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations for financial institutions to identify, assess, and mitigate transition risks. Furthermore, she emphasized the need for collaboration between the energy and financial institutions through business portfolio diversification, inclusive transition planning, and strengthening the green financing framework to ensure a just and sustainable energy transition. The discussion also spread to current priorities and challenges in the ASEAN energy sector.

In closing, the forum affirmed a shared commitment to strengthening regional and national collaboration in promoting a just and climate-resilient energy transition. Through activities such as this, the ASEAN Centre for Energy hopes to continue contributing as a strategic partner in providing science-based knowledge, analysis, and policy recommendations to support the climate and energy agenda of Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region.
