On 23 April 2026the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is set to serve as the Secretariat for the ASEAN Energy Sector Methane Leadership Programme (MLP) 3.0, following its soft launch during the 10th ASEAN Council on Petroleum and Energy (ASCOPE) Mid-Year Task Force Meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam.

Building on the leadership of PETRONAS as the Secretariat for MLP 2.0, ACE will coordinate and organise methane-reduction meetings, training, webinars, workshops, and other events, with support from PTTEP, PETRONAS, and Pertamina as Co-Secretariats, and MLP partners.

This transition formalises the programme’s governance structure within the ASEAN intergovernmental framework, supporting continuity and regional coordination. ACE’s role as Secretariat also aligns MLP 3.0 more closely with the energy cooperation objectives under the ASEAN Council on Petroleum and Energy (ASCOPE) Charter, the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030, and the Global Methane Pledge (GMP).
