Call for Interest: ASEAN Thematic Papers on Energy and Climate Change

29 July 2021

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) invites the submission of interest to develop research papers on energy and climate change in ASEAN. Through the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), ACE aims to shed light on energy and climate issues in ASEAN. The researchers will team up with co-authors from the ACCEPT team (which includes researchers from ACE and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs/NUPI) to conduct the researches, in some cases quantitative and in others qualitative; in all cases policy relevant.

The project objective, background, and other information can be found on the project website,
http://accept.aseanenergy.org/.

In order to ensure a sufficient basis for the input for the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) – regional blueprint on energy cooperation, ASEAN Energy Outlook and national energy policies, the project will produce various thematic papers on cross-cutting regional issues on energy-climate change to support the national energy experts’ findings. The topics of these papers will be developed based on the evolution of APAEC and ASEAN energy trends. In any case they will relate to the seven APAEC Programme Areas, namely:

  1. ASEAN Power Grid (APG)
  2. Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP)
  3. Coal and Clean Coal Technology (CCT)
  4. Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C)
  5. Renewable Energy (RE)
  6. Regional Energy Policy and Planning (REPP)
  7. Civilian Nuclear Energy (CNE)

ACE will provide financial compensation for each paper, according to the scope of work and research plan. Payments will be made on the basis of the completion of the deliverables only. No travel cost will be provided, unless specifically requested for project related meetings and agreed in writing by ACE. Each contributor will produce the following: a full version of the analysis published as an article in a journal with peer review and or as a report; and a short policy brief (3-5 pages) based on the article. Contributors may be invited to present their findings at ACE events, in which case ACE will cover travel expenses.

The duration of the research is varied (2-12 months) according to the topic and engagement. This call is open up to June 2020. However, applications will be processed as they come in and earlier submissions are therefore encouraged. Please include your latest CV, at least one example of recent research (published or working paper) and short concept of the research topic you would like to cover (clearly lay out the research question, methodology, possible data sources, and relevance to the theme of the project, maximum 1 page) with the submission to:
