Sands Expo and Convention Centre, at Marina Bay Sands has announced that it has become the first carbon neutral MICE venue in Singapore. Already a LEED-Platinum and ISO20121-certified venue, Sands Expo’s carbon neutral status is a step towards Singapore’s goal of transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

SINGAPORE: Construction has begun on Tuas Nexus, Singapore’s first integrated waste and water treatment facility, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) and PUB in a joint news release on Tuesday (Sep 8). Set to be completed in phases starting 2025, the facility is a co-location of two mega facilities – the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (Tuas WRP) and Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) – that will “help forge a more sustainable Singapore by optimising land use, and maximising energy and resource recovery”, said the agencies.

SINGAPORE: More firms have set up liquefied natural gas (LNG) desks in Singapore to capitalise on growing demand for gas in Asia, the city-state’s trade minister told a virtual conference on Monday. Singapore currently has over 50 companies with an LNG trading or business development presence in Singapore, trade minister Chan Chun Sing told the Gastech virtual summit.

THE Energy Market Authority (EMA) on Tuesday said it is launching the inaugural Singapore Energy Grand Challenge (SEGC) for the industry and research community, in a bid to enhance business competitiveness and lower Singapore’s carbon footprint. EMA, which is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is inviting proposals that could improve the energy efficiency of local businesses by 50 per cent by 2030 in three key areas. These are: the development of energy-efficient technologies, the optimisation of system design, as well as digitalisation.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy on Monday put on offer concession licences for some 207sq km of gold-polymetallic mining areas in Tbong Khmum and Ratanakkiri provinces. “Interested national and international companies can apply for a mining licence at the [ministry’s] General Department of Mineral Resources,” the ministry said in a press release, adding that it will make a public announcement naming the winning company once the process is completed.

VIETNAM has been urged to reconsider its nuclear power programme as it struggles to meet demand for electricity in the nation. The recommendations for nuclear energy come as the government gathers public input for its 2021-2030 National Energy Master Plan. Vietnam Mining Technology Association chairman Tran Xuan Hoa said Vietnam’s energy imports has continued to rise and it was getting harder to find energy sources to meet its socio-economic development goals.

This chief executive officer (CEO) of Geo Dipa Energy has started to revitalize assets in both working areas, which have a total geothermal energy potential of 800 megawatts (MW).
