A signing ceremony for a letter of intent for the acceleration of Mee Lin Gyaing integrated LNG power project in Mee Lin Gyaing region, Shwethaungyan Sub-township, Pathein District, Ayeywady Region, took place on January 20.
The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Chinese investment companies. The project with an investment of about US$2.5 billion is set to generate 1,390 megawatts of electricity.
Mee Lin Gyaing power plant project is the largest of its kind in Myanmar. The project includes three LNG power plants, an LNG port, a 230KV national grid with a length of over 80 miles and a 500KV national grid with a length of over 130 miles. The project will meet the electricity need of Ayeyawady Region cent per cent and also provide surpluses to other states and regions.
This letter of intent is one of the 33 agreements signed during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Myanmar.
