The government plans to auction three waste-to-energy projects this year, one in the West Java capital of Bandung and two more in Banten — Tangerang and South Tangerang – as part of the shift from fossil fuels to other sources of energy.
Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Director General Sutijastoto said the waste-to-energy plant in Tangerang City had entered the auction process.
The plant was designed to produce 10 to 20 megawatts of electricity, he said on Wednesday, but he could not mention the investment figure for the project.
Sutijastoto said the auction for the project in Bandung would be held in July or August. “Hopefully, the project in South Tangerang could be auctioned by the end of 2019,” he said as quoted by kontan.co.id.
The waste-to-energy projects are based on Presidential Regulation No. 35/2018 on the accelerated development of waste-to-energy plants based on environmentally friendly technology.
Similar plants are to be developed in Jakarta, the South Sumatra capital of Palembang; the West Java city of Bekasi, the Central Java cities of Semarang and Surakarta; Bali’s capital city of Denpasar, East Java’s capital of Surabaya, South Sulawesi’s capital of Makassar and North Sulawesi’s capital city of Manado.
Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arcandra Tahar said all 12 waste-to-energy plants were expected to be completed in 2022 and produce 234 MW of electricity. (bbn)
