Carbon Pricing as An Energy-Climate Nexus Approach in Meeting the Paris Climate Goals

In this discussion, ACCEPT invited Dr. Cyril Cassisa, Energy and Climate Analyst of International Energy Agency (IEA), and Dr. Indra Overland, Research Professor and Head of Energy Program of Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). The discussion was moderated by Dr. Hoyyen Chan, Senior Officer of ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).

ASEAN-COP26 Climate Dialogue on Strategies to Enhance NDCs and Set LTS

The UK COP26 Presidency, in collaboration with ASEAN and IRENA, hosted ASEAN-COP26 Climate Dialogue on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS). The event aims to promote discussion on driving and building momentum for climate action towards COP26, through enhanced NDCs and developing LTS and exploring the vital role they play in economic recoveries post Covid-19 pandemic.

Modelling Electricity Supply for EV Charging Demand with GAMS

To support the development of electric vehicles in Indonesia, the Directorate General of Electricity, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Energy Research Center (APERC), conducted virtual training on Electricity Supply Model for Electric Vehicles Charging Demand. It aims to share modelling experiences and expertise and build the capacity of relevant stakeholders in the country, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of National Development Planning, PT PLN, and ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE). From ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), Richard and Zulfikar Yurnaidi also joined the training.

Simulating Policy Scenarios to Reach the Paris Agreement Goals

Last Friday, ACCEPT organised the first interactive internal sharing session called “Policy Pathways to Paris Agreement Goals”. The session’s objective is to give a better understanding of the policy integration effect to the Paris Agreement Goals. This was done by a series of scenarios simulated by using En-ROADS. Each participant was given a chance to use a web-based software to simulate each unique scenario based on their most fitting opinions and thoughts. On this occasion, the whole session was guided by Dr. Hoyyen Chan.

Learning Energy Efficiency Policies for Smart and Sustainable ASEAN Cities

The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore jointly organised a regional training programme on Sustainable Energy Policies for Smart Cities from 7 to 10 September 2020. Held virtually amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the training workshop attracted more than 200 participants from across the region, even beyond.

SOME Welcomed the Inclusion of OBS 6 on Energy-Climate Nexus

The 6th APAEC Drafting Committee (ADC) Meeting was held on 24 August 2020, virtually. Ms Faith Gan Sze Sze, Alternate SOE Leader, Deputy Director, External Relations, Energy Planning and Development Division, Energy Market Authority of Singapore. The Meeting was attended by ADC Members from all of 10 ASEAN Member States, as well as representatives of the Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA), ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), ASEAN Forum on Coal (AFOC), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Sub-Sector Network (EE&C-SSN), Renewable Energy Sub-Sector Network (RE-SSN), and Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-Sector Network (NEC-SSN). Also, in attendance were the representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), where ACCEPT team is also part of the ACE delegate. The Meeting was held back to back with the 38th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) and its Associated Meeting, hosted by the Vietnam.

Webinar on Climate-Energy-Women Nexus

ACCEPT’s Senior Officer Dr Hoyyen Chan was invited to speak at the Climate-Energy-Women Nexus Webinar on 20 August 2020 that was organised by the University Teknologi MARA (UiTM). This event is part of the training programme, entitled “E-WIRE: Empowering Women in Renewable Energy”, which was funded by Malaysian National Commission for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This training aimed to enhance the women-energy nexus, particularly women in the solar PV industry. This is in line with the ACCEPT’s interest, and thus, the event was also officially supported by ACCEPT.
