Ms Faith Gan Sze Sze, Alternate Senior Officials on Energy (SOE) Leader, Deputy Director, External Relations, Energy Planning and Development Division, Energy Market Authority of Singapore. The Meeting was attended by ADC Members from all of 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS), as well as representatives of the Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA), ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), ASEAN Forum on Coal (AFOC), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Sub-Sector Network (EE&C-SSN), Renewable Energy Sub-Sector Network (RE-SSN), and Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-Sector Network (NEC-SSN). Also, in attendance were the representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), where ACCEPT team is also part of the ACE delegate. The Meeting was held back to back with the 38th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) and its Associated Meetings, hosted by the Vietnam.
The ADC Meeting discussed and reviewed the latest draft APAEC Phase II: 2021-2025 Report, in particular the final Outcome-based Strategies (OBS), Action Plans and Annual Priorities of each Programme Area.
Following the discussion at the 5th ADC Meeting, AMS agreed to have OBS 6. Promote Information Sharing in Energy-Climate Nexus that was developed and proposed by ACCEPT, under Programme Area No. 6 Regional Energy Policy and Planning (REPP) and will officially include it in the draft that will be submitted to the 38th SOME on 24-25 August 2020. However, there was a discussion on the need to consolidate the related Action Plans for effective implementation and synergy not only under REPP but also with all other APAEC Programme Areas.
At the 38th SOME, the Meeting welcomed the draft of the APAEC Phase II, with the full inclusion of the OBS 6. Energy-Climate Nexus is considered as one of the key elements on the new APAEC and it’s also one of the key priorities for Brunei Darussalam that will assume the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021.
ACCEPT is building up the communication with Brunei Darussalam to support the implementation of its NDC as well as the related activities on energy-climate nexus under Brunei’s Chairmanship in 2021.
ACCEPT will continue to support the development of the APAEC Phase II which is expected to be presented at the 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in November 2020, as well as the needed support at national level.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”photo-caption-news”](BS)[/vc_column_text][vc_tweetmeme][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
