ASEAN Accelerator Programme

Brought to you by the ASEAN Centre of Energy (ACE) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), supported by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

ASEAN Sparks is a programme that seeks to address climate and energy pressures by accelerating the growth of climate tech enterprises. The programme empowers early-stage startups with the tools, expertise, and networks needed to scale, while fostering a gender-inclusive environment that drives impactful clean energy solutions across the region. The Enhancement of Clean Energy Technology Ecosystem and Connectivity in ASEAN Project aims to scale transformative energy-climate solutions by fostering investments and business growth within the clean energy and climate technology innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem (CIEE) across ASEAN Member States (AMS). This initiative contributes to the AMS goals of achieving energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability, while advancing global climate targets and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13: Climate Action. The project also aligns with the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2016-2025, particularly the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Programme Area Outcome-Based Strategy (OBS) 2: Enhance Participation of Private Sector and Financial Institutions including Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and Clusters for EE&C promotion

This project will deliver three primary outputs across distinct areas:

ASEAN Sparks Accelerator Programme

Capacity building and technical knowledge enhancement for clean energy and climate technology MSMEs and startups.

CIEE Policy Enhancement

Policy and institutional support to foster an enabling environment for clean energy and climate technology entrepreneurship within ASEAN Member States (AMS).

Network Development

Strengthened linkages and partnerships within the clean energy and climate technology innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem (CIEE), involving governments, enterprises, institutions, and accelerator alumni within AMS and extending to Japan.

Programme Phases

Starting the journey with a programme designed to help climate tech and renewable energy startups build a strong foundation, adapt to market changes, and attract investors. Providing mentorship for startups tailored to their needs, with mentoring and support tailored to each startup.

The journey goes on with a programme that connects climate tech and renewable energy startups with investors, experts, and key stakeholders in more intensive mentoring sessions and workshops. The selected startup from this phase will get the opportunity to join the Final Pitching Day at the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Escalating the momentum with a business matchmaking event in Japan, connecting eligible and investable startups with investor and industry stakeholders in climate technology sectors.
