The European Union (EU) has never imposed a ban on palm oil exports from Malaysia, a top EU diplomat clarified on Monday.

In fact, local palm oil exports to the world’s largest trading bloc jumped by 55 per cent last year.

The High Court here on Thursday allowed a subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) to have RM10.9 billion be considered as investment tax allowance in 2019, after the Finance Ministry had earlier rejected the claim.

This follows the court granting the judicial review application made by SEB’s subsidiary Baleh Hydro Power Generation Sdn Bhd to challenge the Minister’s decision.

SEB’s subsidiary, Baleh Hydro Power Generation Sdn Bhd, which was appointed to construct a hydroelectric power plant in Kapit, Sarawak, had applied to the Ministry to claim the investment tax allowance, a type of tax incentive granted based on the capital expenditure a company incurs on approved projects.

Malaysia’s largest electricity provider Tenaga Nasional Berhad has announced plans to fast track the closure of its coal-fired power plants to hasten the transition of its generation fleet from fossil fuels to renewable sources including large-scale solar PV and green hydrogen.

INNIO announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with B.Grimm Power to collaborate on building new power plant projects in Thailand. B.Grimm has a long and successful history as a trailblazer in Thailand’s private power generation industry. The MoU lays out the framework for a collaboration of the two companies to build projects in the period 2022 to 2024 within the liquified natural gas (LNG) and natural gas segment. Within the MoU, INNIO and B.Grimm will explore the development of decentralized and highly efficient power plants. The two companies will focus on jointly developing the LNG and natural gas segment in Thailand with the possibility of future projects.
