The second meeting was held on 10 May 2023 in ASEAN Centre for Energy Office in Jakarta. It was attended by ACCEPT II and Power, Fossil Fuel, Alternative Energy, and Storage (PFS) Department, and Climateworks Centre.

ACE and Climateworks Centre’s representative during the meeting in ACE Office, Jakarta [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”text-par-news”]Dr Emi Minghui Gui, the System, Lead – Energy of Climateworks Centre mentioned that the purpose of the proposed MoU is to formalize a framework of cooperation and to facilitate cooperation between ACE and Climateworks Centre in support of forming a research and knowledge partnership in ACE’s strategy framework. To be highlighted, the main objectives of the MoU are; (1) To jointly engage research, capacity building, and technical assistance activities related to the renewable energy development and low carbon energy transition in the ASEAN region; (2) To strengthen the engagement between stakeholders in the form of knowledge partnership; and (3) To explore research activities events like conferences, capacity building workshops, lectures, roundtables, and seminars related to renewable energy development and low carbon energy transition in the region.

Muhammad Shidiq, Senior Researcher of ACCEPT welcomed the proposed project from Climateworks Centres and sees the energy modelling side as one of the promising projects that would be beneficial for the parties. Moreover, Climateworks Centre already has the experience of conducting a workshop in energy system dynamics which was preciously collaborated with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). In this workshop, Climateworks Centre took the role to provide the expertise of energy modeling.  However, there is still a challenge to put together the economic development sector as part of the energy modeling.

“We see a lot of constructive collaboration from combined platform that could fill each other’s gap, particularly in the energy and climate change sector” said Muhammad Rizki Kresnawan, Senior Project Manager for Energy System at Climateworks Centre. In addition, I Dewa Made Raditya Margenta, Research Analyst of ACCEPT II mentioned that the collaboration would also be the support for the 8th  ASEAN Energy Outlok (AEO8) study that will be arranged this year.

Moreover, the potential collaboration also possible to support the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) workshop by ACCEPT II that will be discussing about carbon pricing, providing training on emission calculations and reduction, and supporting wider perspectives on carbon pricing impact in the industrial sectors.

The further activities that will be collaborated with ACE aim to result a preliminary policy brief from energy modeling perspectives. Furthermore, there is still a need to conduct several meetings with ACE’s management team including the details of the agreed upon activities, appropriate work plans, cost estimations, funding sources, and other arrangements that are not detailed yet. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”text-par-news”]Detailed information on ACCEPT II can be found at https://accept.aseanenergy.org/
