Methane Emissions Reduction

About

Methane emissions reduction is an increasingly important component of ASEAN’s climate and energy agenda. Methane, a potent greenhouse gas, is released across the energy value chain, particularly from fossil fuel production, processing, and transportation. Addressing methane emissions offers a cost-effective opportunity to deliver near-term climate benefits while improving energy efficiency and safety.

ASEAN’s efforts focus on measurement, reporting, mitigation technologies, and best practices, alongside regional and international cooperation. Reducing methane emissions supports climate commitments, enhances environmental performance, and contributes to more sustainable and resilient energy systems.
