The 8th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO8)
- The 8th edition of ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO8) is a flagship report, developed by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) in close collaboration with the ASEAN Member States (AMS) and partners, that supports the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) The report embodying the spirit of “from ASEAN by ASEAN to ASEAN.”
- ACE launched the AEO8 at the 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and Its Associated Meetings, officially endorsed by Minister of Energy and Mines of Lao PDR officially endorsed by the meeting represented by the H.E. Phosay Sayasone, Minister of Energy and Mines of Lao PDR .
- Drawing on historical data from 2005 to 2022, the AEO8 provides forward-looking insights into the ASEAN’s energy landscape evolution by 2050, offering different pathways, namely Baseline Scenario (BAS), AMS Target Scenario (ATS), Regional Aspiration Scenario (RAS), and the Carbon Neutrality Scenario (CNS).
- Support for the development of AEO8 was provided by the the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan, the USAID Southeast Asia Smart Power Program, the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project II (ACCEPT II), Energy Foundation China, and the Australian Government through Partnership for Infrastructure.
AEO8 is poised to server not only as a guiding compass but as a catalyst for the formulation of visionary regional targets and driving strategic energy policy development for the APAEC 2026-2030 and also for a coming transformative decade.
