Homing in on More Resilience Efforts in ASEAN’s Decarbonisation
23 July 2021
Key Points
Many national governments, local governments, and business leaders from ASEAN Countries have indicated their commitment to achieving net-zero emissions target and meeting the Paris Agreement targets on limiting global warming to below 2 degrees and ideally 1.5 degrees.
Although fossil fuels continue to provide most of the ASEAN’s energy mix, the urgency to generate 23% of the region’s Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES) from renewable energy sources by 2025 continues to escalate. Hence, the ASEAN countries are optimising renewable power for the growing electricity demand.
To alleviate the major intermittency issues of the energy produced by renewable forms of energy, the AMS has been going all out to find solutions, including to seize Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
AMS establishes green partnerships to accelerate the efforts as collaboration partnerships and investments play a vital role in accelerating economic growth across the AMS.
