Homing in on More Resilience Efforts in ASEAN’s Decarbonisation
Halfway through the end of 2021, ASEAN Member States (AMS) continued to promote COVID-19 vaccine equality as a means to reach herd immunity. It is hoped that when most of the population has been vaccinated, by the end of the year, the COVID-19 pandemic will be beaten, and the region’s economic recovery will hopefully accelerate. However, this hope encountered a huge barrier in the form of COVID-19 mutations —becoming more prevalent towards the end of Q2 2021—which threatened the re-emergence of pandemic waves. With the approach of the COP26 meeting scheduled for November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland, it remains to be seen how the AMS will balance their pandemic recovery and climate change efforts.
