On 29 April 2025, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), in collaboration with Oxfam, convened a Multistakeholder Consultation Workshop on the Just and Inclusive Energy Transition Framework in ASEAN. The event marked the public launch of ACE’s new report, A Guide for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition in ASEAN, and brought together government, industry, academia, and civil society representatives for inclusive dialogue. Discussions covered key themes such as energy access, gender and social inclusion, financing strategies, and community engagement. The workshop concluded with a strong commitment to regional cooperation in ensuring that the energy transition leaves no one behind.
ASEAN’s Path to Harmonised Air Conditioner Standards: Progress, Challenges, and Economic Implications

The ASEAN region is experiencing a sharp rise in cooling demand, with air conditioner energy consumption projected to reach 35.5 MTOE by 2050. In response, ASEAN has adopted increasingly stringent Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for room air conditioners, aiming to reach a regional benchmark of CSPF 6.09 by 2030. While countries like Singapore lead in implementation, others face challenges in manufacturing readiness and affordability. Despite these barriers, coordinated efforts—such as regional policy roadmaps, technical assistance, and the ASEAN EE&C Working Group—are paving the way for harmonised, energy-efficient cooling across the region.
