The ASEAN Ministers-CEO Dialogue was virtually convened on 16 September 2021. The Dialogue was chaired by The Hon. Yanty Rahman, Brunei Darussalam Legislative Council, Chair of ASEAN Business Advisory Council.
The ASEAN Ministers-CEO Dialogue is a close-door Dialogue roundtable dedicated for Energy Ministers and industry CEOs to have candid conversations on ASEAN’s energy transition pathways, policies, and the role of industry. The discussion will allow Ministers to share their countries’ plans, invite investment, and provide an exclusive opportunity for the CEOs to clarify, feedback and propose a partnership.
The Ministers reiterated the importance of the ASEAN community working together to ensure energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability for all, focusing on accelerating energy transition and strengthening energy resilience through more significant innovation and cooperation.
The Dialogue emphasised recommendations on the ‘Setting-the-scene: Energy Security and Energy Transition in the ASEAN Region’. In the Industry section, The Ministers underscored to adopt ambitious efficiency measures and emission standards and to adopt renewable energy such as biomass, wind and solar. While in the Transportation section, The Ministers committed to continue support to keep pursuing the vehicle efficiency target, strengthen vehicle emission and fuel quality standards, and invest in public transit and non-motorised transport to reduce the need for driving. Lastly, in the Residential and Commercial section, The Ministers encouraged more robust energy efficiency requirements and enhanced appliances’ building codes and efficiency standards.
