Co-organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI), this forum served as a platform to launch the ACE-CREEI joint report, entitled “Research on Applications of Low Wind Speed Power in ASEAN”. Based on this report, A-WIND software, a visual interactive software for wind power project planning was established and launched during this forum. Both products, the first of its kind that are officially developed, are expected to provide policymakers and business players from ASEAN, China and global to support the wind development in the ASEAN region, as part of the efforts to support the aspirational goal of the ASEAN region to achieve the aspirational target for increasing the component of renewable energy to 23% by 2025 in the ASEAN energy mix, including through increasing the share of RE in installed power capacity to 35% by 2025, as stated in the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2021-2025.
Energy Authorities from ASEAN Member States (AMS), as well as representatives from international organizations, enterprises, and industry attended the meeting either online or offline. The participants held in-depth exchanges on regional energy development and transformation, reached a broad consensus and achieved fruitful results.
Ren Jingdong, Vice Administrator of the National Energy Administration, attended the opening ceremony of the forum and delivered a speech by video link. He said that in recent years, China and members of the East Asia Summit have carried out in-depth, multi-faceted and pragmatic energy cooperation with fruitful results, among which the Clean Energy Forum is a major outcome. The forum has become an important platform for the exchange on clean energy policies and technologies in member countries, playing an increasingly significant role in strengthening regional energy cooperation and dealing with climate change. Ren hoped that through the 5th East Asia Summit Clean Energy Forum, the member countries will actively promote concrete cooperation in the field of clean energy.
Several ASEAN Ministers on Energy, such as; H.E. Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny, Minister of Energy of Brunei Darussalam; H.E. Mr. Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Republic of Indonesia; H.E. Dr. Daovong Phonekeo, Minister of Energy and Mines of Lao PDR; H.E. Mr. Supattanapong Punmeechaow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Thailand joined and exchanged their view on the important of the East Asia Summit Clean Energy Cooperation, as part of the China-ASEAN Cooperation on clean energy. H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN Secretariat; joined by H.E. Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nation, Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP); and Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director-General of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have also shared their views.
