ASEAN’s ambition for a greener future is reflected in its target of achieving a 23% share of renewable energy in its total energy primary supply by 2025 under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II. Yet, as of 2021, the region has only reached 14.4%, indicating a significant shortfall. While the power sector shines with a 33.6% share from renewable sources, other energy-intensive sectors like transport and industry lag behind.
