FGD: Workshop on Variable Renewable Energy (vRE) Smart Microgrid – Electric Vehicle (EV) Integration

To commit towards sustainable energy, the 38^th ASEAN Ministers of Energy Meeting (AMEM) approved APAEC Phase II: 2021-2025, with the theme of “Accelerating Energy Transition and Strengthening Energy Resilience through Greater Innovation and Cooperation”. One of the APAEC’s main programme area is Renewable Energy (RE). The RE programme area has an outcome-based strategy (OBS) that is to conduct high level policy dialogue on renewable energy to accelerate energy transition, access, and resilience. Under the action plan 2.1 on conduct in-depth analysis to increase renewable energy deployment, ACE has tasked to deliver the annual priorities on conduct study on Smart microgrid planning for variable renewable energy and electric vehicle integration.

Correspondingly, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Energy Foundation China (EFC) have collaborated to strengthen the Smart Microgrid Planning for vRE and EV Integration South-East Asia Region. Therefore, this FGD is conducted to gain required input from RE-SSN focal points and related stakeholders in formulating a theoretical smart micro-grid focusing on EV
deployment and RE integration by creating a guideline to kickstart a smart microgrid project.

Objectives

• To present the important study on vRE smart microgrid – EV Integration in South-East Asia Region, associated with the RE-SSN and EE&C-SSN focal points.
• To gain an in-depth understanding and to collect the required input from AMS regarding the smart micro-grid focusing on EV deployment and vRE integration.
• To improve AMS’ understanding on the possibility of EV and vRE integration and eventually contribute to the efforts towards accelerating the energy transition.
• To initiate discussion on how ASEAN governments in terms of providing potential policy recommendations and measures for each AMS in creating supportive environment for renewable energy technologies and expanding the deployment of smart vRE micro-grid.

Target Participant

The targeted participants for this focus group discussion workshop consist of government officials from Ministry of Energy, appointed by RE-SSN and EE&C SSN, from 10 member states, including related stakeholders such as organisations or institutions and experts in RE-smart grid management and EV.
