Key Points

“Falling electricity demand has forced power companies to struggle with a billion dollars of profit drop. Postponing the commercialization of power projects is a crucial step that must be taken immediately to cut big losses. From the demand side, an extreme increase in monthly electricity bills for the residential sector requires the ASEAN government to provide economic assistance in reducing and exempting tariffs of monthly electricity bills to lower-tier class customers. With the hope that the economy will bounce back in 2021, will ASEAN be able to proceed its recovery plan through a low-carbon economy transition such as speeding up renewable energy development?”
