Semarang, 22 July 2024 – The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Indonesia, are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on advancing research and development (R&D) in the ASEAN energy sector. This collaboration signifies a pivotal step towards enhancing energy-related studies through information exchange and collaborative research between the two institutions.
The signing ceremony was signed by Dr Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE, and Prof. Dr Suharnomo, SE., M.Si, Rector of Diponegoro University, witnessed by Dr Zulfikar Yurnaidi, Head of Energy Modelling and Policy Planning at ACE and Prof. Faisal, S.E., M.Si., PhD, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Diponegoro University, setting the stage for a fruitful partnership ahead.
Dr Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “In the spirit of engaging pentahelix stakeholders and recognising the pivotal role of academicians, as the energy challenges require the combined intellect of today. By merging our expertise with UNDIP’s academic excellence, we are shaping the ASEAN energy landscape of the future. We aspire that this new chapter resulting in tangible initiatives that benefit the region.”
Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, SE., M.Si, Rector of Diponegoro University, stated “The partnership with the ASEAN Centre for Energy marks a pivotal advancement in our intersectoral research capabilities and underscores our commitment in addressing energy challenges in the ASEAN energy landscape. We are dedicated to leveraging this collaboration for the benefit of beyond our academic community but also society at large.”
This agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation, including facilitating study and research visits at ACE offices, enhancing practical knowledge and experience. The partnership also promotes the exchange of library materials, research publications, and other information resources to bolster academic and research activities, fostering dialogue on energy issues in ASEAN.
This partnership underscores ACE and UNDIP’s commitment in fostering academic excellence and innovative research in the energy sector. Through joint initiatives, the collaboration aims to address pressing energy challenges, promote sustainable development, and support the region’s transition to low-carbon and resource-efficient economies.

Established on 1 January 1999, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is an intergovernmental organisation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) structure that represents the 10 ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) interests in the energy sector. ACE supports the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), a blueprint for ASEAN energy sector. The Centre is guided by a Governing Council composed of Senior Officials on Energy from each AMS and a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat as an ex-officio member.
