The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday, 19th April 2021, virtually. The parties have resolved to cooperate and make joint efforts to assist stakeholders from the ASEAN Member States (AMS) for faster implementation of smart grids, electric mobility and renewable energy system projects, as well as to undertake training and capacity building activities and any other programmes and projects of interest to AMS that are mutually agreed between ACE and ISGF.
The purpose of this MoU is to set forth a framework for cooperation between ACE and ISGF for various initiatives in the areas of smart grids, the transport sector and renewable energy systems.
ACE and ISGF will undertake joint initiatives to support the Stakeholders in AMS to create awareness and build capacity for Smart Grids, Renewable Energy Systems and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure. The initiative is expected to help AMS for preparing Smart Grid Roadmap, Renewable Energy Roadmap and EV Roadmap and build capacity for the implementation of the programme. The proposed initiatives in terms of a five-year programme will have a proposed Commencement date as 1 July 2021 and the complete programme period is 1 July 2021 – 30 June 2021, or as per final approved of the projects.
Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, the Executive Director of ACE stated, “As the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) sub-theme which endorsed by the ASEAN Ministerial Energy Meeting last year which towards accelerating energy transition and strengthening energy resilience through greater innovation and cooperation. The region looked forward to having more resilience, flexible, robust electricity grid as well as an overall energy system, therefore the collaboration with ISGF is very crucial to support the stakeholders in AMS and work to create awareness and build capacity for Smart Grids, Renewable Energy Systems and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure”.
Mr Reji Kumar Pillai, the President of ISGF said, “This is the beginning of a new chapter in India’s collaboration with the ASEAN Member States and we look forward to working closely with ACE in successfully executing the conceived programs to accelerate the energy transition in ASEAN region”.
