Exploring New Knowledge on Climate System Intervention Technologies: the Opportunities and Challenges in the Context of Southeast Asia

Bali, Indonesia – a workshop was held from 8 to 9 September 2019, which was jointly organised by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Boston University, and the Solar Radiation Management Governance Initiative (SRMGI). The theme of the workshop was “Towards an interdisciplinary knowledge community on the critical understanding of emergent climate system intervention technologies in Southeast Asia”.

ACCEPT in the ASEAN Cooperation on Climate Change

Singapore – Southeast Asia is a region highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, particularly increased flooding in the context of sea-level rise, whereby approximately millions of people along the coasts will likely be at risk from flooding. According to the IPCC special report, “Global Warming of 1.5 oC”, the temperature has been increasing at a rate of 0.14°C to 0.20°C per decade since the 1960s across Southeast Asia, which coupled with a rising number of hot days and warm nights, and a decline in cooler weather. In addition, with 2°C of warming by 2040 in this region, this could lead to a decline by one-third in per capita crop production associated with general decreases in crop yields.

ACCEPT’s Involvement and Contribution in the Regional Training Workshop on Green Building in Singapore

Singapore – A regional training workshop on the green building was held from 16 to 18 July 2019 in Singapore, which was jointly organized by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) Singapore and International Energy Agency (IEA). The theme of the workshop was “tracing the path to low-emission, efficient and resilient buildings, and constructions” and therefore, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) recognized the importance of such training. Through the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), ACE has partially sponsored this event and two research analysts from ACE have participated in this workshop.

Sharing Norwegian Experiences and Insights into a Low-Emission Society at the ASEAN 3rd ADC Meeting

Bangkok, Thailand – The 37th Senior Official Meeting on Energy (SOME) and its associated meetings were held in Bangkok, Thailand in 24-27 June 2019 with the main purpose to strengthen the cooperation within ASEAN Member States (AMS) on tackling the energy challenges.
