ASEAN Holds the Key Role in the Energy Transition in Asia

Asia is the most populous region in the world and home to the largest emerging economies. Energy demand will continue to grow over the next few decades, creating a significant challenge to diversifying a carbon-intensive energy supply. China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea aim to reach carbon neutrality by mid-century, and ASEAN nations have a collective target to reach 23 percent renewable energy in the primary energy supply by 2025, as well as robust energy efficiency and conservation goals.

Discussing Asia Outlook on Policies toward Net Zero in Global UAE Energy Forum 2021

On January 13th, 2021, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) was invited to participate in the 11th Gulf Intelligence “Global” UAE Energy Forum 2021. The annual event took the theme of “ENERGY OUTLOOK 2021: Moving Beyond the Pandemic” this year. The virtual forum was compacted into 12.5 hours one-day event, and divided into four sections: Asia, the Middle East/Africa, Europe, and US/Americas.

Role of Energy in Raising the Ambition of Climate Action

Our moderator for this FGD sessions is Dr. Zulfikar Yurnaidi from ACE.

Leveraging Carbon Pricing to Accelerate Power Sector Decarbonization in Asia

The International Energy Agency (IEA), in collaboration with the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Regional Programme Energy Security and Climate Change (KAS-RECAP), convened the Carbon Pricing Dialogue Workshop: Leveraging carbon pricing to accelerate power sector decarbonization in Asia. The invite-only event addressed the technical aspects of designing and implementing carbon pricing in the power sector, drawing on experiences from China, Korea, and Thailand.

Designing Affordable and Clean Energy for ASEAN

Pursuing affordable and clean energy is one of the focus not only globally, but also for the ASEAN region. While there has been a considerable improvement in terms of providing energy access in ASEAN, the challenges to further make it affordable and clean remains. ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) has given the opportunity to ignite the discussion with global energy stakeholders through a roundtable titled ‘Designing Affordable and Clean Energy for a Resilient Energy System in ASEAN Communities’ at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2020. The virtual event was held on 29th October has successfully gathered around 600 participants around the globe to discuss and explore solutions to solve the remaining challenges to provide affordable and clean energy in ASEAN.  

Rethinking Energy-Climate Relations in Indonesia

Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) conducted The Energy Insight (The Ensight) for the second time and it was live-streamed through the official PYC YouTube channel on 24 October 2020. The theme of this event was “Rethinking Energy-Climate Relations in Indonesia.”
