ASEAN-IRENA Workshop

In advancing cooperation between International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and ASEAN and as part of Renewable Energy Sub-Sector Network (RE-SSN) Associated Meetings, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and IRENA held a joint workshop on 4 May 2021, hosted by Cambodia. The workshop aimed to align IRENA’s collaboration activities with plans of programme area no 5: renewable energy under ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II 2021-2025. Opening remarks were delivered by H.E. Victor Jona, Director-General of Energy, Ministry of Mines and Energy and Senior Official on Energy Leader of Cambodia; Mr. Asdirhyme Abdul Rasib, Senior Undersecretary for Sustainable Energy, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Malaysia and Chair of RE-SSN; Mr. Binu Parthan, IRENA Head of Regions; and Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE. Research analyst of ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), Ms. Monika Merdekawati, was invited as a speaker and pointed out about Renewable Energy priority in APAEC Phase II and current condition in ASEAN.

Climate Change and Energy Transition: Regional Perspective

On 30 April 2021, Senior Research Analyst of ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) of ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Zulfikar Yurnaidi, was invited by the Telecommunication Engineering Program, School of Electrical Engineering, Telkom University, to give open lecture (studium generale).

ASEAN-IEA Webinar: Improving Compliance for Cooling Products in Southeast Asia

As an effort in realizing APAEC Phase II, the International Energy Agency (IEA), in collaboration with ASEAN Member States (AMS) through the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Sub-sector Network (EE&C-SSN), the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is conducting a project called Roadmaps Towards Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings and Cooling in ASEAN. Funded by the ASEAN-Australia Development Cooperation Programme Phase II (AADCP II), part of the project is a webinar on compliance for cooling products, held on 30 April 2021. The webinar was led by senior research analyst of ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), Dr. Zulfikar Yurnaidi.  

ARNECC Paper Talks #2

On 29 April 2021, ASEAN Researchers Network on Energy and Climate Change (ARNECC) held the second virtual paper talks about Prospect of China’s Energy Investment in Southeast Asia under the Belt and Road Initiative: A Sense of Ownership Perspective. ARNECC is a public group for researchers, analysts, scholars, students, and anyone with deep interests in topics related to energy and climate nexus. It is one of the initiatives under the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT). The first paper talks was successfully conducted on 25 March 2021.

19th ASEAN Forum on Coal Council Meeting

On 28th April 2021, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) organized the 19th ASEAN Forum on Coal Council Meeting (AFOC) hosted virtually by the Department of Energy of the Philippines. The one-day meeting started with opening statements on the afternoon session from Mr. Nenito C. Jariel, Jr as the Vice Chair of the Meeting, Mr. Abdul Razib Dawood as the AFOC Chairman, and Dr. Nuki Agya Utama as the Executive Director of ACE.

ACCEPT In-house Sharing Session Phase #3: WETO by IRENA

In continuing efforts to build knowledge on energy and climate nexus, ACCEPT held the first in-house sharing session in 2021. This is continuation of the in-house sharing session throughout 2020 . Experts from International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) were invited to share about World Energy Transition Outlook (WETO). The sharing session were led by ACCEPT Project Manager, Mr. Beni Suryadi.

ASEAN Energy Transition Workshop: Energy Efficiency and Conservation

On Monday, 26 April 2021, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) held a workshop concerning ASEAN Energy Transition which raises the topic of “Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C)”. The event moderated by Dr. Nuki Agya Utama as Executive Director of ACE and presented by four (4) speakers: Mr. Muhammad Rizki Kresnawan as Technical Officer of Modelling & Policy Planning (MPP) Department at ACE, Mr. Bintang Widhana as Technical Officer of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (REE) Department at ACE, Mr. Patrick Blake as Programme Management Officer at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Mr. Rizky Fauzianto as Team Leader of ASEAN-Germany Energy Programme (AGEP).

Energy Transition Dialogues Asia: From Security to Climate Justice?

On Thursday, 15 April 2021, The Gulf Intelligence Middle East convened a weekly webinar of Energy Transition Dialogues with the topic of “ASIA: From Security to Climate Justice?”. The event led by Ms. Michelle Meineke, Director of Energy Transition Dialogues, adopted an interactive dialogue between three excellent speakers; Dr Ning Lin, Chief Economist – Bureau of Economic Geology from The University of Texas at Austin, Dr Zulfikar Yurnaidi, Senior Research Analyst of ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) at ASEAN Centre of Energy (ACE), and Mr. Vasuki Shastry, Senior Fellow, United States Chamber of Commerce & Associate Fellow of the Asia Pacific Programme at Chatham House.
