Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) is an annual event of Asian Development Bank (ADB) for 16 years. Taking the theme of “Accelerating the Low-Carbon Transition in Asia and the Pacific”, ACEF 2021 was held on 14 – 18 June 2021 and comprised of two plenaries, six regional sessions, six thematic sessions, four spotlight sessions, two energy policy consultations, seven deep-dive workshops, and a Financing Clean Energy in Developing Asia book launch.

On June 16th, 2021, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) was invited to participate in one of the sessions in the 3rd Indonesia Energy Conservation and Efficiency Conference & Exhibition (IEECCE). Held virtually on 14-16 June 2021, the event is hosted by the Indonesian Energy Conservation and Efficiency Society (MASKEEI) and The National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology (NCSST-ITB).
ACCEPT In-house Sharing Session Phase #3 Episode #2: Tracking SDG 7 by UNESCAP

The in-house sharing session phase #3 continues to its second episode. This time, ACCEPT invites Kimberly Roseberry, the principal author of Regional Energy Trends Report 2020: Tracking SDG 7 in the ASEAN Region. The report is a joint publication of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). The sharing session was led by ACCEPT Project Manager, Mr. Beni Suryadi.
Industrial Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Development in South and Southeast Asia
On June 4th, 2021, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) was invited to an event by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), in collaboration with Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) and Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC). The international online webinar is titled as “Industrial energy efficiency: A potent tool for nations embarking on the path of sustainable development.”
ARNECC Paper Talks #3
The ASEAN Researchers Network on Energy and Climate Change (ARNECC) talks, a monthly discussion platform established under the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) on the published papers and articles on the energy and climate change nexus in Southeast Asia. The third monthly event was held on 31st May 2021 attended by diverse group of scholars held by ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) featured Dr. Theresia Betty Sumarno− Energy Policy Consultant at IISD, Indonesia. It discussed a journal paper entitled “Accelerating the Economic Recovery in Indonesia Post Covid-19: Justice in the Energy Transition.” It was published at Global Energy Law and Sustainability, August 2020, Vol. 1, in the Edinburgh University Press. Dr. Marlistya Citraningrum from Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) also invited as a commentator to widening the perspective of the participants.

On 27 May 2021, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) in cooperation with ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is organizing a virtual event entitled the Energy Transition Dialogue 2021: Energy Transition trends in ASEAN+3. The event was held as a platform for knowledge exchange with experts from think tanks, practitioners, and academia to get the latest updates on clean energy in ASEAN+3.

The 20th Annual Meeting of the Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub-Sector Network (REPP-SSN) was held virtually on 24 May 2021. The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Jonathan Goh, Director of External Relations, Energy Planning and Development Division, Energy Market Authority, and Senior Official on Energy (SOE) Leader of Singapore as the REPP-SSN Chairman.
Reporting ACCEPT RE Activities to the RE-SSN
In advancing cooperation between International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and ASEAN and as part of Renewable Energy Sub-Sector Network (RE-SSN) Associated Meetings, ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and IRENA held a joint workshop on 4 May 2021, hosted by Cambodia. The workshop aimed to align IRENA’s collaboration activities with plans of programme area no 5: renewable energy under ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II 2021-2025. Opening remarks were delivered by H.E. Victor Jona, Director-General of Energy, Ministry of Mines and Energy and Senior Official on Energy Leader of Cambodia; Mr. Asdirhyme Abdul Rasib, Senior Undersecretary for Sustainable Energy, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Malaysia and Chair of RE-SSN; Mr. Binu Parthan, IRENA Head of Regions; and Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE. Research analyst of ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), Ms. Monika Merdekawati, was invited as a speaker and pointed out about Renewable Energy priority in APAEC Phase II and current condition in ASEAN.
