Meralco hikes power rate in May

The tight power supply in the Luzon grid during the yellow and red alerts in April has pushed electricity rates up in franchise areas of Manila Electric Company (Meralco). Meralco announced Tuesday that power rates in May increased by PHP0.4621 per kilowatt hour to PHP11.4139 per kWh from PHP10.9518 per kWh in the previous month.

Danish pair to kickstart offshore wind in the Philippines

Danish companies NIRAS and Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) have joined forces on a project to kickstart the development of offshore wind farms in the Philippines. COP designated NIRAS to conduct the local environmental impact assessments (EIA) and environmental social impact assessments (ESIAs) for the future offshore wind farm sites.

Aboitiz Power appoints AFRY to build 172MW solar project in Philippines

Filipino renewables operator Aboitiz Power has appointed engineering service company AFRY to construct a 172MWp solar PV plant in the Phillippines. Located in Negros Occidental in the Philippines, the Calatrava project will use fixed ground-mounted solar modules on an area of about 143 hectares.

DOE eyes 3,309MW capacity boost in 2024

The Department of Energy (DOE) anticipates a significant capacity addition of 3,309 megawatts in the country this year, including 334 megawatts from battery energy storage systems (BESS).
