Summary
On 20 June 2025, Suruhanjaya Tenaga released a new tariff structure which will take into effect from 1 July 2025 under the Regulatory Period 4 (RP4). This tariff restructuring is aimed at providing a fairer and more transparent charges, as well as encouraging domestic electricity users in Peninsular Malaysia to adopt prudent electricity consumption practices. A new tariff
structure is needed to better reflect the true cost of energy supply, thus improving price signals to consumers.
This Policy Insight will cover the key highlights of the recent changes in Peninsular Malaysia’s electricity tariff, further disseminating the importance and impact of the tariff restructuring to Malaysia’s electricity sector landscape.
