Vientiane, 25 September 2024 – The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Huawei Digital Power is excited to announce two major initiatives at the 24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-24), organised at the Lao National Convention Centre (LCC): the release of the policy brief titled “Mapping the Current State of Electrical Safety Regulations in ASEAN: Preliminary Assessment of Electrical Safety Standards and Practices for Solar Photovoltaics (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS),” and the opening of the pioneering ASEAN Energy Data Centre Showcase Site. These initiatives are designed to significantly enhance safety and technological innovation across the ASEAN energy sector and set new industry standards for operational excellence and showcase practical applications of advanced energy technologies.
The policy brief was officially launched together by Dr Soukvisan Khinsamone, Deputy Director General of Department of Planning and Cooperation, Ministry of Energy and Mines, Lao PDR, Xie Qian, Marketing Director of Huawei APAC Digital Power, Chen Yong, President of Huawei APAC Digital Power Smart PV & ESS Business, Dr Andy Tirta, Head of Corporate Affairs at ACE and Chairman of AEBF-24, and Syahira Syahputri, Business Development Officer at ACE.
The policy brief “Mapping the Current State of Electrical Safety Regulations in ASEAN: Preliminary Assessment of Electrical Safety Standards and Practices for Solar Photovoltaics (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)” promotes enhancing safety in the renewable energy sector by advocating for the adoption of international frameworks, such as IEC standards, to improve the adherence of ASEAN countries’ national electrical safety standards. It emphasises increasing safety awareness for PV and BESS, encourages regional collaboration, and advocates for developing a talent pool or working group to strengthen expertise and coordination on electrical safety standards across ASEAN energy sector. This approach aims to ensure safe and effective deployment of renewable energy technologies throughout the region.
The ASEAN Energy Data Centre, jointly developed by ACE and Huawei, was unveiled, marking a key advancement in regional energy collaboration. This facility embodies the commitment to digital transformation and energy management in ASEAN, serving both as a hub of technological innovation and a catalyst for setting regional policies and standards. By showcasing state-of-the-art data management and energy-efficient technologies, the centre demonstrates how strategic partnerships can promote the development of a smarter, more sustainable energy infrastructure across ASEAN.
In summary, the collaboration between Huawei and ACE on the new safety standard policy brief and the ASEAN Energy Data Centre represents a strategic advancement in digital and energy management technologies across ASEAN. These initiatives not only set a new standard for technological innovation but also pave the way for future policy development and standardisation in the region’s energy sector.
