Online, 26 January 2022 – Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), in conjunction with 10,000s industrial sectors in Thailand, held a webinar to share about the “Renkei” Control System as one of Japan’s low carbon technologies. “Renkei” Control System aims to improve energy efficiency. Therefore, the “Renkei” Control System could be adopted in ASEAN industries as a part of sustainable energy development in the ASEAN region.
Referring to the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016 – 2025, the region is expected to accelerate and strengthen energy resilience through more significant innovation and cooperation. It is shown strong commitment from the region since all 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) has their policies and strategic plans for energy efficiency. Although the COVID-19 pandemic was happening, the regional energy intensity reduction target –32% by 2025– seems likely still achievable.
ASEAN still needs to continuously boost the current energy efficiency as this region has done through 24.4% energy intensity reduction from 2005 as of 2017. Also, ACE will support energy efficiency and sustainable energy development through the Clean Energy Future Initiative ASEAN (CEFIA), a programme between ASEAN and Japan that aims to formularise recommendations on affordable, cleaner, and sustainable technology. CEFIA would be a linchpin to advance technology deployment and platform to streamline technology priority while transferring knowledge of new technology as well as R&D enhancement to the ASEAN region.
