Jakarta, 11 March 2020On 11th March 2020, Dr Nuki Agya Utama, the Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and experts from ACE’s Policy Planning and Modelling Department were invited by the National Energy Council (DEN) of Indonesia for coordination and discussion at DEN’s office. The meeting aimed at information sharing of the recent developments and challenges in the ASEAN energy sector in order to support DEN’s tasks in formulating and defining Indonesia’s National Energy Policy (KEN) and National Energy Plan (RUEN), as well as in developing the Indonesia Energy Outlook.
Mr Sugeng Mujiyanto, the DEN’s Head of the Energy Policy Facilitation and Court Bureau presented Indonesia’s current national energy policy and existing targets. On the other hand, ACE shared ASEAN’s recent situation in the energy sector based on the preliminary findings of the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO6) which provided Indonesia with some insights on what is occurring in the ASEAN future energy trends. These insights hopefully can help Indonesia on how to shape the useful future policy of Indonesia would be.
The exchanges of views and insights have addressed some issues on data standardisation and explored the possible cooperation among the parties. ACE acknowledged the valuable inputs from DEN on the development of the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook, which DEN also would like to learn from ACE on how ACE develops the bottom-up approach model. DEN believes it would be beneficial for Indonesia to work on this approach, as this would provide some extent of granularities or breakdown for several targets to enhance, amongst others, the energy efficiency policies.
