Following up the mandate from the President of the Republic of Indonesia that Indonesia should have centralised, integrated and complete data system to accommodate the needs of different sectors, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral/ESDM) of Republic of Indonesia took an initiative to ensure that data in the energy sector is centralised, integrated and complete. For that purpose, the Data and Information Centre (Pusat Data dan Teknologi Informasi/Pusdatin) of ESDM organised a workshop for its staff and stakeholders in Bandung, West Java on 1-2 June 2016. There were 40 (forty) participants from Indonesian Ministries, Indonesia Coal Mining Association (Asosiasi Pertambangan Batubara Indonesia/APBI), State-Owned Electricity Company, Indonesia (Perusahaan Listrik Negara/PLN) and ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).  ESDM co-organised the workshop with the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC).  Five trainers from IEA and APERC facilitated the workshop for the 2 (two) days.  ACE was represented by Aloysius Damar Pranadi (Technical Officer for Policy Research and Analytics Programme) as participant.

The workshop’s main objective is to train policymakers, statisticians and relevant stakeholders to have better methodologies and resources in data analysis for Indonesia’s energy data and statistics. During the workshop, ESDM stated that they would improve the coordination in and the capacity of each related department to strengthen its data collections, analysis and results in the near future.
