To fulfil its role as regional centre of excellence, ASEAN Centre of Energy (ACE) actively participates in the regional activities to enhance its capacity and expertise as well as assist the ASEAN Member States (AMS) in strengthening regional and international cooperation. This time, ACE participated in ‘Expert Meeting on Economic and Life Cycle Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic System in APEC Region towards Low-Carbon Society’. The two-day meeting (13-14 March 2018) in Putrajaya aimed to gather opinions from ASEAN experts on the methodology and scope of research for the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) study, funded by Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), to be finalised in November 2018. As a kick-off meeting to start the study’s development, the meeting also became a knowledge exchange platform on LCA. Attendance consisted of the study’s project leader (Solar Energy Research Institute), ASEAN experts, government officials and some financial institutions representatives.
During the meeting, ACE representative shared some findings of the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) study from its previous joint project with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). ACE hopes that key results and findings from the previous study can give a new perspective and provide best practices for a similar study. (NS. Featured photo credit: ACE)
