Jakarta, 17 March 2026 – The Executive Director of ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Dato’ Ir. Ts. Razib Dawood, briefed the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN at the 3rd Meeting of the CPR in 2026. The Meeting was chaired by H.E. Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to ASEAN, and attended by the Permanent Representatives of the ASEAN Member States to ASEAN and H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs.

The Executive Director of ACE briefed the Meeting on the context of the situation in the Middle East and its impact to the ASEAN energy sector. The briefing highlighted that more than half of the regional total final energy consumption and around one-third of the regional power generation rely on oil and gas. The briefing also shared discussions from the Ad-hoc Senior Official Meeting on Energy (SOME) on Monday, 16 March 2026.

ACE developed the only ASEAN-led energy system model with baseline statistical data verified directly by the ASEAN Member States for the ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO). This model for AEO has been taken to specifically forecast the impact of the current situation in the Middle East to the ASEAN energy sector. ACE has been tasked by SOME to continue the work as the ASEAN energy think tank by providing recommendations to the ASEAN Member States based on the model.
