ASEAN Methane Week: Advancing Energy-Climate and Net Zero Pathways

Fossil fuels still account for 84% of ASEAN's total energy supply, and while this has supported energy security and economic growth across the region, it has also heightened climate risks. Methane, as one of the most potent short-lived climate pollutants, plays a significant role in these risks and presents an urgent opportunity for near-term climate action. Without stronger action, unchecked climate change could shrink regional GDP by up to 11% by 2100 and displace 87 million people from flood-prone areas.

To support this agenda, the ASEAN Centre for Energy, in partnership with the Global Methane Hub and the Climate & Clean Air Coalition, and supported by the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT), is pleased to convene the ASEAN Methane Week, bringing together governments, companies, international organisations, researchers, and investors to strengthen synergy, share knowledge, and spark dialogue on a collective way forward toward a net-zero energy future.
