All year round, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) accepts fellows who wish to carry out research projects for a period of 3-6 months. Applicants should have a defined project which will either become a chapter or chapters of a PhD or Postdoctoral thesis or a proposed project, which will be agreed upon with ACE before their applications are accepted. All work must be written in English and will normally be used for a publication produced by ACE.

To apply as a Visiting Research Fellow, the following information should be submitted to [email protected]:

  1. Confirmation that the applicant is/will be enrolled in a PhD or Postdoctoral programme during the fellowship.
  2. Sponsorship situation; the applicant is fully funded by a sponsoring institution or seeks funds from ACE.
  3. Full proposal of the research (if available) or a one-page outline of the specific piece of research.
  4. Proposed length of stay at ACE; between 3 and 6 months.
  5. A sample of past research or publication in English.
  6. A curriculum vitae

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) Internship Programme offers a small number of outstanding students the opportunity to acquire work experience with ACE at the ASEAN level, in implementing the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Final year or recent graduate (at least within one year after graduation) in engineering, energy studies, statistics, law, international relations, finance, human resources, computer science, business, administration and/or other appropriate specialist discipline.
  2. Graduated with a university degree (Bachelor) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a 6 – 12 months period.
  3. Excellent command of both written and spoken English.
  4. MS Office skills, familiarity in Microsoft Outlook, with advanced knowledge in Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
  5. Ability to plan and organise workload.
  6. Previous experience in another internship program is preferable.
  7. Possess attention to detail, a strong willingness to learn about the energy sector, passion for working in an international environment, initiative, enthusiasm and detailed-oriented.
  8. Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.
  9. An understanding of international and/or development issues.
  10. Demonstrate commitment to ASEAN’s mission, vision, and values.
  11. Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Duration: 6-12 Months

Grant: IDR 100,000 per effective working day to cover the daily meal and transport.

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) collaborates with Dialogue Partners and International Organisations (DPs/IOs) in conducting joint research, capacity building, and cooperation activities. One of the platforms is through secondment. In the secondment, an expert from a partner institution would be seconded to ACE, to closely support and jointly conduct priority activities of the target organisation according to the expertise.

Objectives

  1. To support the priority activities of the assigned department, as per the guidance of the Department Manager.
  2. To initiate related research and cooperation activities, in support of related Programme Areas of APAEC.
  3. To actively contribute to publication and dissemination activities (e.g. development of policy briefs, journal papers, and Op-eds) as well as participation in webinars and forums.
  4. To provide capacity building to ACE staff, both formally (training) and informally (discussion).

Scope of Works

  1. Joint development of academic papers to be published in a respected journal.
  2. Publication of popular articles or non-academic publications, including blogs, Op-eds, policy briefs, and working papers.
  3. Internal training or public webinar of expertise topics in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  4. Provision of written information and advice on expert matters, to support various ACE activities, including the preparation of proposals and briefing notes.
  5. Participation in projects and events, including meetings, seminars, document preparation and review, as well as outreach.

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) provides up to four (4) new internship opportunities to be involved in the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project Phase II (ACCEPT II) research and cooperation activities.

The ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project Phase II (ACCEPT II) is a four-year joint project that will help move ASEAN’s energy transition to low-carbon energy systems and thereby contribute toward global carbon neutrality in the coming years (Impact).

Responsibilities:

Under the general guidance of ACCEPT II staff, the intern will support ACCEPT II Project research and cooperation activities. This will include but not limited to:

  1. Support the research activities, including but not limited to research design or concepting note, primary and or secondary data collection, data analysis & processing, stakeholder management, and writing report.
  2. Contribute to the creation of publications and contents for website or other media, e.g., Reports, Policy Briefs, Op-Eds, blog posts, etc.
  3. Support the preparation of meetings and events organised by ACCEPT, including post-event reporting.
  4. Support other activities as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. Enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any science and engineering major in particular energy and climate degree including environmental science, economics, public policy, law, and politics.
  2. Be a third-year or last-year student or a fresh graduate degree but must commence the internship within 6 months period after graduation.
  3. Good computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite. Any other computer or related software skill is a plus.
  4. Professional work experience is not required, however, any exposure or involvement in the energy and climate sector is a plus.
  5. Strong willingness to learn about the energy and climate sector, especially in the scope of power, fossil fuel, alternative energy and storage sectors.
  6. Ability to work in a team and to adapt to a diverse working environment.
  7. Maintain good English, both oral and written.
  8. Have good academic performance as demonstrated by recent university records.

The internship will be conducted on a hybrid basis, The intern may work on virtual but it is required to work in the office as needed. However, he/she must be able to commit with ACE’s normal office hours: 8.30 AM to 4.30 PM Jakarta Time (GMT+7).

The internship duration is 4 to 6 months, and it is expected to be started in early July 2023.

The intern is entitled to an internship allowance of IDR100,000 per effective working day to cover their daily meal and transport.
