All year round, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) accepts fellows who wish to carry out research projects for a period of 3-6 months. Applicants should have a defined project which will either become a chapter or chapters of a PhD or Postdoctoral thesis, or a proposed project which will be agreed upon with ACE before their applications are accepted. All work must be written in English and will normally be used for a publication produced by ACE.

To apply as a Visiting Research Fellow, the following information should be submitted to [email protected]:

  1. Confirmation that the applicant are/will be enrolled in a PhD or Postdoctoral programme during the fellowship.
  2. Sponsorship situation:the applicant is fully funded by a sponsoring institution or seeks fund from ACE.
  3. Full proposal of the research (if available) or a one-page outline ofthe specific piece of research.
  4. Proposed length of stay at ACE, between 3 and 6 months.
  5. A sample of past research or publication in English.
  6. A curriculum vitae

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) Internship Programme offers a small number of outstanding students the opportunity to acquire work experience with ACE at the ASEAN level, in implementing the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Final year or recent graduate (at least within one year after graduation) in engineering, energy studies, statistics, law, international relations, finance, human resources, computer science, business, administration and or other appropriate specialist discipline.
  2. Graduated with a university degree (Bachelor) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a 6 – 12 months period.
  3. Excellent command of both written and spoken English.
  4. MS Office skills, familiarity in Microsoft Outlook, with advanced knowledge in Excel, Power point and Word.
  5. Ability to plan and organize workload.
  6. Previous experience in another internship program is preferable.
  7. Possess attention to detail, strong willingness to learn about energy sector, passion for working in international environment, initiative, enthusiasm and detailed-oriented.
  8. Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.
  9. An understanding of international and/or development issues
  10. Demonstrate commitment to ASEAN mission, vision, and values
  11. Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability

Duration: 6-12 Months

Grant: IDR 150,000 per effective working day to cover the daily meal and transport.

The Energy Modeler shall assist the Manager of Energy Modelling and Policy Planning (MPP) in handling Modeling aspects of the MPP. He/she will assist energy modeling activities of the Centre with regards to enhance the capacity and exposure as regional energy think tank, also the knowledge hub and catalyst.

Qualification Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, data analyst/statistician, economics, policy planning, or another appropriate specialist discipline with specifications of energy sector. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • At least two (2) years working experience in the energy sector with applications of energy modelling. Experience in energy policy planning is an advantage.
  • Proven professional experience in any energy sector modelling tools (LEAP/NEMO, PLEXOS, CGE, TIMES/MARKAL, GAMS, etc.) is preferable.
  • Skill on database system and statistic (R or Phyton) is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct energy modelling activities, especially in the context of ASEAN Energy Outlook, including but not limited to data processing, parameters analysis and projection, modelling software application, problem solving, and results analysis.
  • Support research, study and analysis in the capacity of energy modeler. Activities include but not limited to policy tracking, energy outlook, academic paper and strategic report publication, technology database development.
  • Support the implementation of the APAEC priorities, mainly the Regional Energy Policy and Planning (REPP), but also other related Programme Areas.

Objectives

  • To support the priority activities of the assigned department, as per guidance of Department Manager.
  • To initiate related research and cooperation activities, in support of related Programme Areas of APAEC.
  • To actively contribute on publication and dissemination activities, e.g., development of policy brief, journal paper, and Op-ed, as well as participation in webinar and forum.
  • To provide capacity building to ACE staffs either formally (training) and informally (discussion) as per his/her expertise

Scope of Works

  • Joint development of academic paper to be published in respected journal.
  • Publication of popular article or non-academic publication, such as blog, Op-ed, policy brief, and working paper.
  • Internal training or public webinar of expertise topics in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  • Provision of written information and advice on expert matters, to support various ACE activities, such as preparation of proposal, briefing notes.
  • Participation in projects and events, such as meetings, seminars, documents preparation and review, as well as outreach.

ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is seeking a Program Manager (PM) for the USAID SPP Project to manage this project in coordination with the Departments of ACE and USAID SPP.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Project Management Unit (PMU)
  • Lead, coordinate and implement the overall APAEC and USAID-SPP-related tasks
  • Lead the accomplishments of nine (9) milestones of the project annually and develop
    the report for every milestone
  • Develop the subsequent years’ Programs of Work and Key Performance Indicators
  • Lead the coordination and communication on the activities that involve other entities
    within ASEAN, such as ASEAN Sectoral Energy Bodies (SEB)/Sub-Sector Networks
    (SSNs) and ASEAN Working Groups
  • Facilitate required approvals and processes within ASEAN
  • Develop communications and advocacy strategies to promote regional energy
    cooperation
  • Monitor and evaluate the budget on a regular basis
  • Regularly report the progress of the project to the Executive Director of ACE.
