Under Programme Area (PA) #2 of the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP), the region aims to focus on gas pipelines and liquified natural gas (LNG) to ensure greater gas supply security and sustainability while connecting existing and planned pipelines and regasification terminals with the view of minimising the environmental impact. The ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), a specialised energy body that leads in the implementation of the TAGP Programme Area, is exploring the development of a common gas market for ASEAN by enhancing gas and LNG connectivity and accessibility.
Under Programme Area (PA) No. #3 of Coal and Clean Coal Technology (CCT), the region seeks advanced technologies to facilitate the transition towards sustainable and lower emission development through clean coal technology (CCT). Therefore, the ASEAN Forum
on Coal (AFOC) – a Specialised Energy Body that leads in implementing the CCT programme under the APAEC – is promoting the role of CCT towards a low-carbon emissions economy with a specific focus on energy security and climate-energy resilience.
Some research, studies, capacity building and collaboration with external partners are ongoing in TAGP and CCT Programme Areas. There are also several collaborations with external partners to implement Action Plans and Annual Milestones of TAGP and CCT Programme Areas.
