[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”text-par-news”]The Nineteenth Annual Meeting of the Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub-Sector Network (19th REPP-SSN) was held on 5 August 2020, virtually. The Meeting was chaired by Ms Faith Gan, Deputy Director for External Relations Department, Energy Market Authority (EMA), and Alternate Senior Official on Energy (SOE) Leader of Singapore.
The Meeting was attended by REPP-SSN Focal Points from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and representatives of the ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), ASEAN Forum on Coal (AFOC), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Sub-Sector Network (EE&C-SSN), Renewable Energy Sub-Sector Network (RE-SSN), and Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-Sector Network (NEC-SSN). Also, in attendance were the representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).
Mr Beni Suryadi, ACCEPT Project Manager also joined the Meeting, presented the Update on ASEAN Energy Cooperation with Norway, which is implemented through the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT).
This August marks 5 years of Norway as the Sectoral Dialogue Partner with ASEAN, and the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) is one of the main projects supported under Norwegian-ASEAN Regional Integration Programme (NARIP).
The 37th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting last year through its Joint Ministerial Statement welcomed the ACCEPT to support ASEAN in improving the coherence between energy and climate policies and contribute to more climate-friendly development of the energy sector.
The ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project or ACCEPT is the first integrated project on energy and climate nexus. This project is being implemented to support the information sharing on energy and climate nexus in ASEAN, through various type of activities implemented by ACE and or in collaboration with the Member States, and other key stakeholders, such as:
- Active participation to support the development of APAEC and its implementation in the collaboration with related Programme Areas, as well as on the development of the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook through the collaborative support with the Asean-German Energy Programme (AGEP).
- Aiming for the information sharing on energy and climate nexus, the project has published various policy briefs and insights which widely downloaded and being read by the energy stakeholders not only in ASEAN but also from many countries beyond the region. The dedicated page tracking Covid-19 Impact on energy and climate change in ASEAN also widely visited and used by many people.
With 22 national focal points and network with more than 100 regional experts and researchers, we have organised a number of sharing session on various topic on energy and climate nexus, including with the Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II on Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability and experts from World Economic Forum.
The project is also actively disseminating the information through ACE and project website and ACE or project social media on Twitter and Instagram.
ACCEPT project is providing a platform not only for ACE to help the ASEAN Member States in implementing its regional energy cooperation, but also helping ACE in building its internal capacity and capability as a leading think tank on energy issues in the region.
And as ASEAN is moving to implement the new APAEC Phase II, ACE is continuing to utilise the project to support AMS in the implementation of APAEC at regional and national levels. The format and type of activities will be continued in a similar practice, but the content is flexible enough to response to the ASEAN needs, be it at regional level or national level as raised by the AMS that the Member States may have different situations and priorities.
The project is currently also conducting the study on CO2 Baseline Study under the collaboration with AFOC Focal Points, and about hydrogen.
ACCEPT will continue to be a platform on information sharing on energy-climate nexus in ASEAN, and support the implementation of the APAEC Phase II, in particular for a number of Action Plans under OBS 6 of REPP in 2021, but also responding and supporting all other related Programme Areas.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”photo-caption-news”](BS)[/vc_column_text][vc_tweetmeme share_via=”asean_energycc” large_button=”true”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
