The 2nd Technical Review Group Meeting on ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study (AIMS) III Development

As the progress of ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study (AIMS) III Development continue to develop, the ASEAN Centre for Energy had been organised the 2nd Technical Review Group Meeting 9-10 March 2020, held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The venue serves as engaging dialogue to produce valuable insight from the international expert’s feedback on the methodology, approaches, assumptions and preliminary results of the study. This meeting was a follow-up meeting from 1st Technical Review Group Meeting held on 11 Dec 2020, in Bangkok, Thailand. AIMS III development is a flagship study for identifying the ASEAN Power Grid opportunities, where this study is supported by the USAID Clean Power Asia Programme – a 5-years assistance programme to promote the integration between higher renewable energy penetration and power planning.

Although amid of COVID-19 outbreak, the meeting was successfully conducted both physically and virtually via online. At ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) Office, ACE had an in-person meeting with HAPUA Working Group 1, USAID Clean Power Asia team and Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI). Meanwhile, others such as HAPUA Working Group 2 (Thailand), Singapore Power/SP Group and Energy Market Authority/EMA (Singapore), Tenaga Nasional Berhad/TNB and Suruhanjaya Tenaga/ST (Malaysia), GE Energy Consulting and its consortium, and other TRG members: US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (US NREL), International Energy Agency (IEA), and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) attended the meeting via the online platform.

In this meeting, ACE with its selected consultant to lead the works of AIMS III, GE Consortium, wisely welcomed the inputs and feedbacks from all TRG members: IEA, IRENA, HNEI and US NREL. The feedbacks will be further collectively collated into the modelling and analysis, therefore, the results of AIMS III will be improved.
